Church News:

Sunday school will be on 8th March from 10-11am in Church. We shall have our usual games, stories, singing and craft, followed by refreshments. All children are welcome to come along. Parents may stay, if they wish. This month we wish a very happy birthday to Libby Watters, who will be 7 years old on 14th, and Antonia Hall, who will be 5 on 23rd.

On the comment forms returned with this year's orders for the Share, it was suggested by one person that children could have more input into the magazine. There is always a page for them "to do", but why not a page for them to write? Can any of our young people write poems, make up crosswords or games? Do they have a story to tell, or experience to relate? Why not send them in, either electronically or on paper via the village co-ordinators. All addresses and contact details are in the Share.

Coffee morning for March will be at Broadacres, Roade Hill, Ashton on Thursday 12th at  from 10.30-12o'clock. There will be the usual cakes, bring and buy and raffle, and the Draw for the 50/50 club will take place.

Winners of the January 50/50 club draw were 1st Diane Shadforth (Ashton £43.75), 2nd Andrew Fowler (Ashton £26.25), 3rd Bron Kenny (Ashton £8.75). Contact Stephanie Fowler on 862904 to join the 50/50 draw for March. This will take place at the coffee morning on 12th.

At the Roots weekend in July, a photographic competition will be held. The title of the competition is "History in the Making". Anyone may enter and there will be three age groups, Primary school age, Secondary school age, and Adult. We would like pictures of any aspect of life in Ashton as it is now. It could be of people, buildings, gardens, wild flowers, traffic, school, trains going through. The list is endless. Do you think these things may have changed in 10 years time? Record them on your camera, make sure you take a note of when and where the photo was taken, and enter them in the competition. More details will follow in the next Share and Ashton Village News. You do not need to live in Ashton to take part. Just make a record of how village life is in 2009.

Tower Captain

It was with much sadness that the bell ringers of Roade and Ashton had to accept the resignation of Mrs Jean Tipler as Tower Captain of Roade. Jean learned to ring bells in Paulerspury when she was just 12 years old. She was taught by her uncle, and went on to teach many others to ring, both in Roade and Ashton. During her time as captain, Jean has rung for weddings, funerals and many other special occasions as well as for Sunday services.  It is due to her dedication and commitment that the bells are still rung regularly in Roade and for weddings and events in Ashton. She will be sorely missed. We would like to wish Jean a happy and healthy retirement.
