History of Ashton:

Ashton is a an ancient Northamptonshire Settlement, held at the time of the Domesday survey by Winemar, passing by 1316 to Philip Le Lou, and by 1541 having been in the hands of Sir Thomas Colepeppers family, it had become part of the extensive holdings of the Duke of Grafton. Ashton was noted for its fine lace-making, but had been primarily an argicultural village with wheat, beans and barley grown for centuries in the parish’s 1317 acres.

Dylan Jones - April 1982
