Tree Planting Neutralises
Carbon Footprint

In the recent National Tree Week, Komcept Solutions (Hartwell Road) planted over 200 trees around its Ashton site to help the BBC's World Record attempt.

As part of the BBC's Tree O'Clock World Record attempt on 5th December 2009, for the most trees planted in multiple locations in a single hour, the company planted 201 trees of assorted types and sizes. The record attempt had 230,000 trees across the UK recorded, but an estimated 500,000 actually planted.

Around a dozen company employees and friends braved the rain to take part, aged from 2 upwards. The trees, all native British trees, include some Oak, Ash, fruit trees and two Scots Pine and all had rabbit protection guards fitted to them.

These, in addition to the hedgerows and trees already established, neutralise the organisation's total carbon footprint, taking into account all energy, emissions and transport usage. The company has various sustainable measures applied to their site, including rainwater processing and reuse and biodisc waste processing.

Komcept Solutions' Managing Director, Phil Joyce, said "We are proud to have a neutral carbon footprint and we are commited to helping the environment."

Defective road under Railway bridge, Hartwell road, Ashton
July 2009

This is just to let you know that the permanent repair to the above was planned to take place at the end of June but unfortunately this did not happen.

The reason that the work has now been delayed until late October is that we have to apply to have the road closed so that the work can be carried out safely and unfortunately there is a lengthy legal procedure to go through.

Should you require a more specific date or further details of the work to be done please contact,

Joyce Kingsbury - used stamps

Joyce  has agreed to receive any used stamps that you save for Mrs Davidson in Roade.  Please deliver them to Joyce at 8A Hartwell Road and she will take them to Mrs Davidson.  If you have not saved stamps in previous years, perhaps you could do so over Christmas as the used stamps help in charity fund raising.  Thank you.

What's happening at Ridgeway Farm?

Many of you will have noticed work being done at Ridgeway Farm on the Hartwell Road.

Well, a month or so ago, after a very long planning battle, Komcept Solutions Limited, a small company currently in Northampton, bought Ridgeway with the aim of converting the larger of the barns to an office and electronic development laboratory.

Komcept Solutions has been around since 2001 and has been designing digital recording systems for sale, mainly, to the Police and Governments around hte world.  Almost all of our few staff are graduate engineers or computer scientists and we don't expect to have much impact on the traffic on the Hartwell Road.

As far as the type of product, you will all have seen the police series on the TV where the suspect is interviewed and a recording is made on a twin cassette tape recorder, we make a version with CDs and IT network capability to attempt to bring the police into the 21st century!  We also produce a video version which is used for vulnerable witness interviews.  The law changed a few years ago allowing a video recording of a serious assault - such as a rape - to be used in court as evidence-in-chief.  This means that the rape victim, for example, does not have to re-live his or her ordeal 6 months later when the culprit is in court and he or she is asked to give evidence.  These products are now sold under the brand OneDigital and the OneDigital offices will also be located at Ridgeway Farm.

The intention is to make the large barn look 'similar' to the original barn, i.e. glass where there were holes and similar cladding and colours.  We believe we can improve the look of the farm and not have too much impact on the village.  One disappointment is that the hedge along the road has to be moved back to abide by the Highways Authority ruling so for a couple of years, there will be a growing hedge rather than a mature established one.

This is a good opportunity to give you notice that when we move
